IMPACT and Residency Program Entrance Requirements

Applicants (IMPACT or Residency) who were unable to take and/or pass the CBEST or CSET due to COVID-19 will be allowed to enroll in teacher preparation programs in the fall and defer the CBEST and CSET requirements. These requirements (CBEST and/or CSET) will then become requirements to earn the Preliminary teaching credential. Learn more >

Preliminary Teaching Credential Requirements

Any candidate (Intern or Resident) who has completed all of their program and credential requirements (in previous years or currently) except the RICA are now eligible for their Preliminary credential with a RICA deferment. The RICA will become a requirement for the CLEAR teaching credential. These candidates will enter Induction in the fall and their preliminary credential will have a RICA renewal code to indicate this requirement must be completed to process a Clear credential.

Current candidates (Interns & Residents) (enrolled in programs during 2019-2020) who completed all of their program and credential requirements and were "on track" to complete their programs before September 1st, but still need to pass the TPA (or TPA and RICA), are eligible for their Preliminary credential. The TPA (or the TPA and RICA) will then become a requirement for the CLEAR credential. These candidates will enter Induction in the fall and their preliminary credential will have a TPA (and RICA if appropriate) renewal code to indicate this requirement must be completed to process a Clear credential.

Intern candidates who were not scheduled to complete preparation by the end of the year because they had program and/or credential requirements to complete (not necessarily due to COVID) will be eligible to apply for an extension on their intern credential. These candidates will NOT enter Induction in the fall. They will continue enrollment with TCSJ. Once all requirements for the preliminary credential are met, they will enter induction. **Note this category is not reflected on the flowchart produced by CTC because they were enrolled but were not scheduled to complete preparation by the end of the year (1st Box of flow-chart).

Current candidates (Interns and Residents) who completed all of their program and credential requirements, once employed, will enter Induction.
