Sherry Gleason

STEM w/ MIAA M.Ed. Candidate

The TCSJ STEM with MIAA M.Ed. program is a bona fide, precious treasure of the San Joaquin County Office of Education. The integration of rigorous, relevant coursework, 21st Century Skills-based thinking, and supportive, approachable, and intellectually stimulating faculty have made my Mathematics and STEM knowledge base grow exponentially with each course I take. I love how immediately transferable my TCSJ experiences are to my own classroom. Self-reflection, collaboration with peers, and the application of research based practices have pushed me beyond my self-professed teaching limitations to be a positive force in the field of Mathematics and STEM education. Being a life-long learner, I believe that it’s never too late to achieve your goals, even at the age of 51; I drive each week from Tracy, excited about what I’ll learn next with my TCSJ family!

IMPACT Teaching Credential & Masters in Education Graduate, Current Administrative Services Credential Student

TCSJ is the best. When I started out in teaching twelve years ago, I had no idea what to expect. Thankfully, I was supported every step of the way by the compassionate and knowledgeable instructors, coaches, and staff at TCSJ. Jeanne Shaw, Russell Irwin, and others guided me through the Teaching Credentialing program, Tasks, and struggles that every new teacher encounters. Later, I returned to TCSJ in pursuit of a Master’s in Education. I learned and grew, but more importantly, I had fun. I learned to love being a student again. I am now enrolling at TCSJ once again – this time to complete an Administrative Credential. Someday, I would like to further my studies and pursue a Doctorate. Without TCSJ, I wouldn’t be saying these things. Quite simply, I have been inspired. And for that, I am very thankful.

Nancy Ureña Reid

TCSJ Class of 2014, Masters in Educational Inquiry

I am a proud alumnus that has benefitted from the training and preparation of the "four R’s": Rigor, Relationship, Relevance, and Reflection. I have taken to heart the mission of TCSJ, and blossomed and gained confidence due to the supportive TCSJ staff. Because of TCSJ support and guidance, I have realized my mission "To develop a CS pathway for an ethnically diverse student body at an urban high school." I have to thank all my professors, especially my Advisor, Dr. Sylvia Turner, who has helped me to "lean in" to develop, deliver, and sustain innovative ideas. Getting more students access to CS pathways, and preparing them for tech internships, especially for girls and minorities is becoming a reality. TCSJ is the place to help educators prepare students to be career and higher education ready!

M.Ed. Early Education

I can’t say my journey at TCSJ was an easy one. It was tough (especially with 4 kids) but with the support and encouragement of staff and my colleagues, it was a positive one. I love the fact that we were all educators learning together. The professors were flexible and understanding of the fact that we had a life outside of our own classroom and our coursework. They made it easy for me to relate and I felt like I wasn’t on this journey alone. Thank you TSCJ!

Elizabeth Magnuson

M.Ed. Early Education

I have really enjoyed my Masters Degree courses through TCSJ. The Early Childhood Education Courses were informational with instructors who are knowledgeable, making the classes interesting and relevant. I have been able to take ideas taught and lessons that were created and shared, back to my classroom to use with my students. The Masters Program has been a wonderful experience and I felt supported by everyone at TCSJ throughout my experience. I highly recommend TCSJ to anyone who is looking to further their education.

Harjinder Mundal

M.Ed. STEM

I am very proud to be a part of the TCSJ community. I earned my teaching credential through this college and now I am earning my Master’s Degree in Education with a STEM concentration. TCSJ has a very safe, supportive, and encouraging environment. The college also helps teachers promote 21st century skills and prepare students for college, career, and global competition.

Math Instructional Added Authorization Program

The Math Instructional Added Authorization Program at TCSJ completely changed my philosophy in teaching! It changed the way I teach and interact with students, the way I implement activities to engage them in mathematics lessons, and the way I designed intensive interventions to accommodate students with different learning abilities, including English Language Learners. This program offers valuable content knowledge that can be applied immediately to my teaching to promote all students’ learning. I grew so much as a professional by enrolling in MIAA.

IMPACT Teaching Credential Program and M.Ed. STEM Candidate

Teachers College of San Joaquin has been my "saving grace" as I transitioned into a teaching career. I highly recommend this program because it not only allows you to work a full time job and complete teaching requirements, but the schedule is flexible. This college has presented me with several opportunities to learn and grow professionally, and personally, that I do not believe that I could have experienced at another accredited college. The staff here want you to succeed and do their best to help all students when necessary. TCSJ is a college that I value due to the caring culture and talented support staff.
