Adding a Designated Subjects CTE Credential to a CA Teaching Credential

In order to add a Designated Subjects: CTE credential to your general education credential, we need to see evidence of the below items completed prior to starting the program:

  1. Verify up to 3000 industry hours using the work experience templates. Industry hour details:
    • Current credential can count for 1000 hours. Have your HR department use the Verification of Teaching Experience Letter to qualify you.
    • 24-48 units of college level coursework can be used to meet industry hours, 24 units = 1 year, 48 = 2 years.
    • A minimum of 1000 hours needs to be actual work experience in the industry (not teaching but the actual trade).  If you do not use a. above, 1 year must be within 5 years or 2 years within 10 years.
    • Hours can be full-time, part-time, volunteer, paid, self-employment…and round UP!!
  2. Submit a Verification of Employment stating that you are teaching a CTE course that requires the credential. Verification of Employment Template
  3. A Work Experience letter from your administrator including the following teaching experience: (this letter may waive you of up to 17 units of coursework):
    • Standards based Lesson and unit planning
    • Use of technology in the classroom
    • Collaboration with colleagues
    • Assessment processes including data analysis
    • Use of instructional strategies
    • Ability to create a classroom environment that promotes engagement and motivation
    • Parent involvement
    • Ability to create expectations, procedures, and routines
    • Ability to work with special populations
    • General education teacher role in IEP/504 meetings
    • Assessment data pertaining to El
    • Use of ELD Standards
  • CTE 200 (5 session course spread over Fall and Spring semester)
  • CTE 202 (5 session course in Fall semester)
  • CTE 204 (15 session course in Spring semester)
  • CTE 283 Support Supervision (1 semester with support in classroom)
