About This Course

This course is the first in a three-part series on ELA curriculum design. Participants will build a shared understanding of the research-based principles of structured literacy, then apply them directly to designing a scope and sequence and lesson plans for curriculum.

This course is designed to build a foundational understanding of the science of reading and the principles of structured literacy and how to effectively apply those principles to curriculum design. As curriculum designers, we have a responsibility to ensure that the instructional tools we create are grounded in the best available evidence and support meaningful outcomes for students. Through this course, participants will develop a shared understanding of key research-based principles and learn how to apply them when designing a scope and sequence and lesson plans. While this course serves as an introduction to these concepts, it also emphasizes the importance of ongoing learning, reflection, and continuous improvement to ensure our curriculum remains aligned with evolving research and the needs of learners.
