PRIVATE SCHOOL TEACHERS PURSUING A PRELIMINARY TEACHING CREDENTIAL PROGRAM

Teachers College of San Joaquin offers the teacher preparation/coursework requirement for general education private school teachers who want to earn a teaching credential. Eligible candidates must have worked as a full-time teacher in the subject area of the credential being sought for a minimum of one-year at a WASC accredited private school in California.

Eligibility Requirement Details:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution
  • If a bachelor’s degree has not been posted to your transcript, you must provide a letter from your academic institution on letterhead (from the registrar or appropriate designee), stating that you have completed all requirements for the degree and the date that the degree will be officially conferred.
  • If your degree was completed from an institution outside of the US, you must get your transcripts evaluated from an approved agency confirming an equivalent degree.
  • Basic Skills Requirement
  • United States Constitution Requirement
  • Certificate of Clearance or valid document issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing
  • Subject Matter Competency Completion
  • Verification of Experience Letter (verifying at least one-year of full-time teaching at a WASC accredited private school)
  • Private School WASC accreditation verification
  • Proof of employment as a teacher of record (candidate is responsible for ensuring that location of employment as a teacher is located within San Joaquin or Stanislaus County at a WASC accredited private school)
  • Letter of Good Standing (only required if the applicant has been enrolled in or is currently enrolled in a teacher preparation program at another institution.) 
Basic Skills Requirement (BSR) Coursework Evaluation Details:

To have your coursework evaluated for basic skills requirement by TCSJ, follow these steps:

  1. Begin by applying to our pre-service preparation program.

  2. During the application process, you’ll have the option to request TCSJ’s evaluation of your coursework. You’ll also receive a link to complete the BSR coursework evaluation form.

  3. Please note that there is a $135 coursework evaluation fee, which will be added to the application fee, bringing the total to $200.

  4. Your evaluation will be finalized within 15 days once we have received the following: Your submitted application with the completed form, payment of the $200 fee, and Official transcripts of the coursework you wish to have evaluated.

Subject Matter Coursework Evaluation Details:

Subject Matter evaluations are currently delayed and will resume on January 2, 2024. To have your coursework evaluated for subject matter competency after January 2, 2024 by TCSJ, follow these steps: 

  1. Begin by applying to our pre-service preparation program.

  2. During the application process, you’ll have the option to request TCSJ’s evaluation of your coursework. You’ll also receive a link to complete the subject matter coursework evaluation form.

  3. Please note that there is a $135 coursework evaluation fee*, which will be added to the application fee, bringing the total to $200. *If you paid the $135 BSR coursework evaluation fee,  you are not required to pay a second fee of $135.

  4. Your evaluation will be finalized within 15 days AFTER JANUARY 2, 2024, once we have received the following: Your submitted application with the completed form, payment of the $200 fee, and Official transcripts of the coursework you wish to have evaluated.

Candidates must be employed as a teacher located within San Joaquin or Stanislaus County at a WASC accredited private school.

THE APPLICATION TO APPLY FOR THE IMPACT INTERN PROGRAM TO BEGIN IN FALL OF 2024 WILL AVAILABLE BEGINNING APRIL 1, 2024.
