Early Literacy Institute

The 2026 Early Literacy Institute is presented by the California Kindergarten Association & Teachers College of San Joaquin. The conference will begin with keynote speaker Greg Smedley-Warren and continue with many other wonderful presenters! This conference is especially designed for TK – 3rd grade educators. Conference attendees will: Choose sessions that are tailored to their interests Have an opportunity to network with educators Develop an understanding of key foundations reading skills and how to implement these in today’s diverse classrooms Develop differentiated foundational reading instruction lessons, focusing on foundational reading skills that include concepts of print, phonetic awareness, phonics, and word analysis Come away with various strategies, supports, and resources that can be used in their educational setting immediately Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase 0.5 Professional Development Unit (PDU) for attending the conference. ELD Standards Institute

The California ELD Standards Institute is designed to familiarize participants with the 2012 California English Language Development standards. Participants will understand the key shifts in the new standards, their alignment to the ELA CCSS, Proficiency Level Descriptors, and resources in the appendices. Additionally, participants will engage in practical classroom application using the ELD standards in tandem with other content standards. This integrated and designated English Language Development includes both a focus on meaning and interaction as well as building knowledge about structures and features of English.

The Paraprofessional Institute

This institute is a specially designed professional learning opportunity for paraprofessionals who support students across a range of instructional settings, with a particular emphasis on effectively serving English learners. Participants will deepen their understanding of second language acquisition, explore the CA ELD Standards and their role in integrated and designated ELD, and learn practical strategies that help students access grade-level content. A key component of this model is the time between sessions, which allows participants to apply new learning with their students and reflect on their practice.
